HOW CERTIFICATION AFFECTS VALUE

You’ve decided on the right balance of the 4C’s, but wait, before you drop a load of cash on your perfect diamond wouldn’t you be more comfortable with a second opinion, an unbiased evaluation of the diamond’s quality?

Of course, and this is why the diamond you’ve selected comes with a grading report from an independent lab. Good job, but hold on a second more, before you open your wallet, just who is providing that independent second opinion? Is the lab owned by the jeweler’s friend? Does the lab have a reputation for ‘generously’ over-grading? Does the lab take responsibility for their work?

Not all grading labs are created equal. Some are not quite as independent, honest or as experienced as others. Make sure your diamond is graded by a reputable laboratory because you don’t want to find out that the H/SI1 diamond you just paid for was misgraded and is actually an J/SI2. Read the fine print on the grading report that comes with your diamond.
